| The College is fully accredited to teach the New Zealand Certificate in Nanny Education which is included in the studies of Stage One. Students develop a huge range of skills and learning resources in their first year. These cover all aspects of childcare, including human development, family interaction, nutrition, observation techniques, teaching practices and programme planning. The College focuses on emphasising the practical, hands-on approach with its students. Also included in Stage One is a range of professional teaching practice placements, designed to give students hands-on experience working with babies and children. This professional teaching practice directly links theory to practice, which is vital for personal and professional development. The College has an especially strong professional teaching placement network, which is varied and well established. Stage One students complete a total of 10 weeks professional teaching practice. Two two-week family home based professional teaching practice, one three-week family home professional teaching practice and one three-week centre based professional teaching practice. This enables the students to develop initiative and the ability to relate effectively with parents or caregivers. Professional teaching practice experiences are closely integrated within the programme and are expansive, giving students valuable experience in a wide range of early childhood settings. Graduates are multi-skilled and confident, often finding employment in senior positions.
The six cirriculum areas are expanded on during stage 2 of the diploma programme. Stage Two professional teaching practice reflects the depth and specialisation of the programme as well as each student's individual interests. Each student has four professional teaching practice experience (16 weeks) in a wide range of licenced early childhood centres. The depth of study increases in Stage 3 to achieve diploma level.
