Christchurch is the South Island’s largest city and the third largest city in New Zealand. It also has a reputation as one of the most beautiful. Here you’ll find everything you’d expect in a big city, packed into a place that’s still small enough to easily get around. Even from the outer suburbs it’s only an easy bike ride or short bus trip into town. Make yourself at home! The College is a wonderful place to study - the best tutors, great inner-city campus and a real community spirit. Wherever you live in Christchurch, the College is easy to get to and its city location means that there are plenty of opportunities for excellent coffee, food, shopping and entertainment. With two universities in the region - the University of Canterbury in Ilam and, a little further out, Lincoln University – Christchurch is also well set-up to cater for the student lifestyle. There are a variety of options for boarding or hostel-type accommodation and if you prefer to go flatting, the local newspapers are always full of advertisements for houses to let and flatmates wanted. Recreational opportunities abound! It’s not so much a matter of finding things to do, but of finding time to do it all. Ski fields are within easy reach, beaches, hills for mountain biking or walking, as well as movie theatres, art galleries, concerts and cultural events. Transport is easy, accommodation is plentiful and living expenses very reasonable: all in all, Christchurch is a great place to live as a student.
