To become a qualified, registered, early childhood teacher you need a recognised teaching qualification.

The New Zealand College of Early Childhood Education is fully accredited to deliver the Diploma of Teaching (ECE) Level 7 and New Zealand Certificate in Nanny Education Level 5.  These qualifications are on the New Zealand Qualifications Register of Quality Assured Qualifications.

The Diploma of Teaching (ECE) is a three-year, full time programme with the option to complete over six years via Field-based learning. 

The Diploma of Teaching (ECE) includes three components: 

Academic requirements, professional teaching practice requirements and personal and professional requirements. 

Students study five courses in each stage of study.  These are:

• Curriculum Studies
• Social and Cultural Studies including Te Reo and Tikanga
• Professional Studies
• Education Studies and
• Teaching Studies

 
Stage specific courses are also taught.
