The part time field based delivery of the programme is designed to support and develop the leadership of participants within their early childhood education position.

The programme is a blend of face to face teaching sessions, online learning activities, self-directed study and practical application.

Face-to-face teaching sessions

Participants are required to attend the equivalent of 3 ½ face-to-face teaching days per course (a total of seven days for two courses studied concurrently in a year). The face-to-face teaching days occur in either Christchurch or Auckland.

One day in February, two consecutive days typically in April, July and September. The Christchurch based days are delivered typically at the College campus.

The Auckland based days are delivered at venues confirmed annually. Affordable accommodation is located close to the venues.

Online learning

Participants work through activities in the College’s online learning environment ‘ECEonline’. The online activities guide the learning between the face-to-face teaching sessions.

Regular interactive online postings also encourage and support learning. Participants are given instructions on how to use ECEonline at the beginning of the programme.

Practical and self-directed learning

Each course involves aspects of traditional academic study which requires significant reading and research. The course work and assessments apply to the early childhood education environment and experience of the participants.

This in turn makes a direct difference to the professional leadership practice of the participants.
