The New Zealand College of Early Childhood Education is recognised for developing teachers who have a balance of academic knowledge and strong professional practice.

In addition to the College’s teaching programmes, the College has introduced a leadership programme to support the career development of early childhood education professionals.

Two qualifications at level 7 on the New Zealand Qualifications Register of Quality Assured Qualifications are available through the leadership programme:

• Certificate in Leadership (Early Childhood Education) – not offered in 2012
• Diploma in Leadership (Early Childhood Education)

The leadership programme has been developed in comprehensive consultation with the early childhood sector. It is designed to support, nurture and develop the leadership of professionals within early childhood education.

The programme is intended for teachers within leadership positions (such as head teachers, assistant head teachers, centre directors, managers) and those aspiring to lead.

The programme reflects the College’s philosophy of authentic ‘hands on’ learning. It is part time, field based programme delivered by a blend of face-to-face, online and applied learning.

The programme is designed to be both accessible and manageable for teachers within early childhood education positions. It is also designed to challenge and develop the leadership practice of the participants.
