End of Year Message from CEO

2011—the year that was ….

We have come to the end of what has been a memorable year.  On behalf of all the staff of the College I would like to thank all our students, Associate Teachers and colleagues in the wider ECE.  Your support and assistance throughout this year has been very much appreciated.

The courage, resilience and adaptability of our staff and students has been quite exceptional.  While the earthquakes have had a devastating effect on our city and its people, it is important that we maintain an optimistic outlook.

The fact that classes began less than two weeks after the earthquake speaks volumes for the determination and innovation of all the people within our College.  We have remained future focused and our new campus in Sawyers Arms Road is really taking shape. This is our new home.  It will without doubt be a vibrant campus because of the people within it.

I would like to pay particular tribute to our students.  It was extremely moving to see both our On Campus and Field  based students receive recognition for completing their study in the most trying of conditions.  This brief Christmas newsletter features photos of our Graduation ceremony.  Sharlene Poole, known to many as the ‘Baby Whisperer’ gave an inspirational address at the ceremony.  Sharlene who was a former student of the College showed what could be achieved with a good grounding in early childhood education, a strong work ethic and a positive outlook.

We look forward to an exciting (and hopefully more settled) year in 2012.  Enrolments are very encouraging, and we look forward to enjoying the brand new surroundings of our new campus.  We also look forward to continuing the progress on the development of a new degree.

Beginning of the year arrangements for next year are included in this newsletter.

I trust you have a safe and very relaxing Christmas and New Year.

Best wishes

Andy Walker
Chief Executive Officer

At the College’s new campus

This promises to be an enjoyable evening which will detail about the Colleges new Professional Teaching Practice process and the role of an associate teacher.  There will also be information about the planned Degree and Degree upgrade programmes as well as a tour of the new campus.

As a result of the establishment of a new College company all Associate Teachers that support the College are required to complete a new IRD 330 tax form to enable the payment of the Associate Teacher fee.  Associate Teachers wanting the payment made to their centres will now need to make the invoice out to ‘New Zealand College of Early Childhood Education Limited’.

A mail out about Professional Teaching Practice  (PTP) arrangements for 2012 was recently sent out to all Canterbury based centres in November.  Please contact the College if you require an information pack.  Key dates for next year are:
