All fees are placed in a Trust Account operated by the Public Trust. Should the College close unexpectedly due to financial reasons before the course is completed, the Public Trust Account ensures a pro-rate refund of fees is paid by the student, based on the date of a course terminating.

Eligibility for Health Services

Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed on their website at http://www.moh.govt.nz.

Accident Insurance

The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at http://www.acc.co.nz.

Medical and Travel Insurance

All international students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand. You are required to provide the New Zealand College of Early Childhood Education with proof of appropriate insurance from your home country or with a New Zealand provider, before you can apply to NZ Immigration for the Student Permit.

Immigration Requirements

All students studying on a programme of 12 weeks or longer must have a valid Student Permit. To obtain a student permit you must be enrolled in a New Zealand Qualifications Authority approved programme, have been offered a place on the course, and produce the receipt for the full course fee paid in advance to the College.

Attendance at the College, or meeting all programme requirements is a requirement of your Student Permit. Should a student fail to meet these compulsory requirements NZ Immigration will be notified and the student may risk losing their Student Permit.

Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service, and can be viewed on their website at http://www.immigration.govt.nz.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

International students require sufficient English language proficiency to obtain full benefit from the programme. If English is not your first language and you did not attend a secondary school in New Zealand, you need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency.

International Students who enrol for the New Zealand Certificate in Nanny Education formerly the National Nanny Certificate (Stage 1) or the Diploma CACHE (UK) (Stages 1 & 2) must have a minimum IELTS overall Academic grade of 6.0.

An IELTS Academic Grade 7.0 average across all four categories is required for direct entry into Stage 3. Direct entry into Stage 2 or 3 will only be permitted in conjunction with a successful recognition of prior learning application.

The College offers continuing support with English Language.

Prior to graduating from the Diploma of Teaching (ECE) programme all International Students and students who are immigrants to New Zealand for whom English is not their first language must provide proof that their English is at the IELTS grade 7 level in each category of the academic version of the test.  This is at the student's expense.

Withdrawl Policy

Students enrolling in a programme offered by the College are only entitled to a refund if they withdraw at any time up to the end of the eighth working day after the programme has commenced, equal to the full amount paid, less 10% of those payments or $500.00, whichever is the lesser.

There is no refund of fees after the eighth working day of the programme.

Student Orientation Programme

During the first weeks of the programme there are various activities that will assist you to settle happily into the College and into Christchurch. The orientation programme offers all new students a range of activities and opportunities to form new friendships and to become familiar with Christchurch and major features of New Zealand culture.

The Orientation activities include:

  • An opportunity to meet the staff
  • Special sessions where students get to know one another
  • Sessions of multi-cultural study where students are able to share characteristics of their culture with other students 
  • Opportunities to visit places of interest in central Christchurch, e.g. Library, Art Gallery
  • Opportunities to participate with other students in activities e.g. preparing food to be shared, participating in tabloid sports games
  • Opportunity to meet with your special tutor, with whom you will be associated throughout your time at College Features of New Zealand culture
  • New Zealand political system
  • New Zealand legal system
  • The New Zealand road code
  • Health issues and contacts

The Orientation Programme is an integral part of our curriculum for all students coming to the College.  It is helpful for all students, New Zealanders and international visitors, as most of you come from outside Christchurch and it is an opportunity to make lots of new friendships.

Where students are uncertain, lack confidence or need further information, the orientation type support goes on right through the year, particularly with your special tutorial staff member.
