Onwards and upwards! Completing your studies at the NZCECE doesn’t have to mean the end of life as a student. The Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) can be your passport to further study – with a little extra work you can add a Degree to your Diploma.

There are two major options:

Bachelor of Education

This is not a teaching qualification, but it is a degree. Time taken varies depending on the institution, but at Massey University, for example, graduates of the NZCECE holding a Diploma of Teaching (ECE) can gain a Bachelor of Teaching with just one more year of study. Students can study a combination of education and interest papers. Massey University offers the option of studying this course by distance.

Bachelor of Teaching and Learning

This is a teaching qualification. Time taken varies depending on the institution, but at the University of Canterbury graduates of the NZCECE holding a Diploma of Teaching (ECE) can gain a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning with one or two more years of study, depending on part time or full time studies.
